BIODYNAMIC CRANIAL TOUCH "This way of working promotes the natural healing forces within the body to be the active agent of change." What is Biodynamic Cranial Touch?Biodynamic Cranial Touch (BCT) is a gentle, light touch therapy that promotes the awakening of the natural healing forces within the body. It is a subtle whole body approach to restore health and wellbeing. By listening to the body through touch without intention to change or manipulate, the practitioner is able to facilitate the awakening of the body's own intelligence and highly evolved self repair mechanisms. It is a safe therapy for all people including the newborn and is recommended by practitioners from all traditions for people with a wide range of conditions, from birth trauma, dental conditions and depression to learning and behavioural difficulties and diseases. BCT works at all levels of your being - mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. In BCT the practitioner works with the Breath of Life. The Breath of Life is the source of primary respiration - a deep healing force that creates your body at conception and maintains health throughout the rest of your life. By connecting with that which provides us with life, emotions are resolved, trauma is released and core disease manifesting issues are discovered, uncovered and brought into our conscious awareness for the healing process to begin and the journey back to health and wellbeing to commence. How Does BCT Work? First and foremost the therapy helps to slow down your central nervous system and allows your body to access a deeply, relaxed state. In accessing this state, much like when we sleep, the body is then able to kickstart it's self repair mechanisms and start the journey back to health. When we are stressed our central nervous system is in a constant state of hyper-vigilance. In this state the body is doing all it can to keep us alert and functioning should we have to defend ourselves from the constant threat that it perceives it is being subjected to. This hyper-vigilant state takes an enormous amount of energy and work for the body to maintain and as such it has little energy left to devote to self repair. Thus the body is only able to maintain this for a finite period before something has to give and unfortunately this usually manifests itself as illness and disease. Our bodies are marvellous at keeping us going but even they have a point at which they say "enough is enough". If we keep pushing our body to function with no regard for its welfare then we are heading for trouble. Another way that BCT works is by working with your body's energetic system. Much like our circulatory system which pumps blood around our body we also have a system of energy currents that flow around our body. Science has known for some time now about the existence of these currents and the subsequent electromagnetic fields that they generate in and around the body. Much research has been done into identifying these currents and the effect that human touch has on them. Biodynamic Cranial Touch practitioners believe that the energy existing within the craniosacral system, and in particular the cerebrospinal fluid, is of fundamental importance to the healthy functioning of the body as a whole. Thus the BCT practitioner primarily focuses on this system to restore health and vitality to their clients. More Indepth..... At the moment of our conception there is present within us an underlying intelligence that carries with it the blueprint for who we are and how we are to develop. This blueprint contains within it all we need to maintain our state of health and is that which instructs our bodies how to maintain optimal functioning. This blueprint is not a physical structure but rather an energy force or 'potency', called the "Breath of Life", that is transported throughout the body maintaining balance, health and wellbeing as it goes. This force is moved around our bodies via our fluids, and in particular our cerebrospinal fluid. The movement of this force throughout the body produces subtle rhythmns which can be felt anywhere on the body by a skilled therapist. Osteopath, Dr William Sutherland, identified these subtle rhythmns over 100 years ago and called them collectively the "primary respiratory system", (PR). He also identified that every cell in the body expresses this PR motion. Thus it is vital that all our cells and tissues express a healthy PR otherwise our health becomes compromised. During the course of our lives our bodies become patterned, shaped and conditioned according to how we're able to deal with any stresses or traumas. If stresses or traumas are overwhelming, they become locked in the body as sites of inertia - until such a time as we are able to access resources that allow them to be processed and released. These sites of inertia affect the natural rhythmical movements of the Breath of Life and so hinder the ability of our essential blueprint for health to manifest at a cellular level. Common causes of inertia are physical injuries, emotional and psychological stresses, birth trauma and toxicity. Due to an accumulation of these stresses, tissues can become imprinted with the memory of unresolved experiences and so act like video tape which may keep replaying whenever stimulated. Thus these areas of inertia, and cellular imprints, need to be released in order for health and vitality to be restored to the individual. Trying to regain health without addressing these restrictions is like trying to bake a cake without milk, you might get an end product but there will always be a fundamental component missing to make it complete and whole. What is the goal of a BCT session? The main intention of Biodynamic Cranial Touch is to encourage the expression of a healthy flowing PR. The emphasis in Biodynamic Cranial Touch is to help resolve the trapped forces that underlie and govern patterns of disease and fragmentation in both body and mind. The intention of treatment is to facilitate the expression of the Breath of Life and so enhance the body's own self-healing and self-regulating capabilities. This is done in a non-invasive way as the practitioner subtly and gently encourages the conditions that allow for the reemergence of primary respiratory motion. Furthermore, the practitioner's deep and clear quality of presence can become a reflective mirror for the patient and an invaluable cue for their potential for change. What are the benefits of BCT? The therapy may surprise you with benefits you hadn't known were possible, including resolution of symptoms that you had no idea were related to the cranial system or to each other. You may feel lighter, with a sense of more spaciousness within yourself. You may notice more ease in relationships or ability to focus. You may stand straighter or breathe more easily and deeply. Pains may decrease and emotional boundaries may be easier to maintain. It is likely that you will feel deeply relaxed and centered. You may gain clarity on issues in your life that have been holding you back and you may feel empowered and motivated to make changes in your life. You may feel more energised and find that you are able to sleep more soundly. Because each person is unique, it is impossible to say exactly what benefit you will feel, or how long it will take you to feel it, but the above comments are quite common. What happens during a session? We will commence the session by having a discussion of the issues you are having and the goals and expectations that you have. You will then be asked to lie, fully clothed, on a massage table. There is no need to remove any clothing. I will then commence the therapy by placing my hands gently at contact points on your head. At no time do I apply heavy pressure or manipulate structures in any way. During the session I will hold at specific points for varying amounts of time. I may spend the whole session working at your head or I may spend time working on other parts of the body. It all depends on what your body needs at that particular time. Whilst I am working you may feel or experience: - heat
- tingling
- sensations of movement within your body
- emotions may surface
- old memories may arise
- deep relaxation, some fall asleep
- insight or clarity into issues you are experiencing
These are all very normal reactions and are indicators that the healing forces are activating within your body. You may feel nothing and this is OK too as some people just take a little longer to access the space required to initiate change. After the treatment we will discuss what came up for you during it to gain clarity on the steps needed to move forward. Biodynamic Cranial Touch is one of the most exquisite, refined and noninvasive healing modalites available. Being an open and neutral conduit for the Breath of Life, the practitioner uses gentle contact at specific points on the body, never engaging invasive techniques or even subtle mental intentions. The client is nurtured into ever deeper stages of relaxation. In this way, physical and psycho-emotional stress and trauma are naturally released, liberating new levels of vitality, health and awakening. The goal of a BCT session is to restore a dynamic balance of healthy function; to appropriately respond with vitality to immune challenges and stressful experiences, and to reconnect to that which evolves our consciousness.
